Schedule K-1 (Form 1065), box 11

Box 11: Other income (loss)

A catch-all for other income and loss items. Each line has a code letter and an amount, and code ZZ usually points to a statement.

What box 11 reports

Other income, gain or loss that does not fit boxes 1 to 10. Each line is a code letter followed by an amount, and the box can have several lines.

Code ZZ means other and nearly always points to a statement attached to the K-1. The amount is on the statement, not in the box.

Where it goes on your return

Depends on the code

The common case

Where a box 11 amount goes depends entirely on its code. For example, code C (section 1256 contracts and straddles) goes on Form 6781, code E (cancellation of debt) is generally reported on Schedule 1 (Form 1040), and code S (non-portfolio capital gain or loss) goes to Schedule D.

When it depends on you

Several codes depend on the partnership's attached statement or on your own participation. See the Partner's Instructions for the code you have.

Code letters and titles change between tax years: new codes are added and old ones are retired. This list is the 2025 list. K1 FastTax reads and exports only the code letter and the amount, so check the letter against the instructions for the year printed on your K-1 and against the partnership's attached statement.

A real example line

Below, a line written the way the document text arrives, run through the same reader as your upload. The reader matches the box number and the IRS label, then reads the amount, so it still finds the line when the scan is noisy.

Check before you enter it

  • A line that says STMT or an asterisk instead of an amount is a pointer to the statement. K1 FastTax records STMT in the CSV and adds the line to the review list.
  • The sign matters: a code C line of (480) is a loss.

In the K1 FastTax output

CSV column: box_11_codes, for example A:120;C:-480;ZZ:STMT. In the checklist a line looks like Schedule K-1 (1065) screen, box 11, code A. All CSV columns.

Official source

The IRS text for every box is in the Partner’s Instructions for Schedule K-1 (Form 1065). Use the edition for the tax year printed on your K-1, because box wording and code lists change.

Plain answers

Questions about box 11

Where does box 11 of a Form 1065 K-1 go on my return?

It depends entirely on the code. For example, code C (section 1256 contracts and straddles) goes on Form 6781, code E (cancellation of debt) is generally reported on Schedule 1 (Form 1040), and code S (non-portfolio capital gain or loss) goes to Schedule D. See the Partner's Instructions for the code you have.

Box 11 shows ZZ and STMT. What do I enter?

Code ZZ means other, and STMT or an asterisk means the amount is on a statement attached to the K-1. Read the statement for the amount and for what it covers. K1 FastTax records ZZ:STMT in the CSV and adds the line to the review list, but it does not read the statement for you.

What if a box 11 line is negative?

The sign matters: a code C line of (480) is a loss. K1 FastTax stores it as -480, and holds an unclear sign for review instead of guessing.

Can box 11 have more than one line?

Yes. Each line is a code letter and an amount. K1 FastTax writes them into one box_11_codes cell separated by semicolons, for example A:120;C:-480;ZZ:STMT. The plain box_11 column stays empty for coded boxes.

Do the box 11 code letters change from year to year?

Yes. New codes are added and old ones are retired, so a letter that meant one thing on an older K-1 can mean another now. Check the Partner's Instructions for the year printed on your K-1 and the partnership's statement.

Is box 11 the same on a Form 1120-S or Form 1041 K-1?

Other income (loss) is box 10 on a Form 1120-S K-1. On a Form 1041 K-1 the closest match is box 5, other portfolio and nonbusiness income. The code lists differ between forms, so read the label and use the instructions for the form in front of you.
