How your K-1 is handled
A K-1 carries Social Security numbers and EINs, so this page is specific about what happens to them. Last updated 28 October 2026.
What happens to the file you upload
When you press Read this K-1, your browser sends the file to an edge function on Cloudflare, which passes it to the conversion service. The service turns it into text, and K1 FastTax reads the K-1 boxes from that text. The file is processed in memory and deleted after conversion. The text it produces is used to build your result and is not stored by K1 FastTax.
Social Security numbers and EINs
The reader masks every SSN, TIN and EIN it finds to the last four digits on our server, before the response is sent. What reaches your browser has already been masked: the result table, the source lines, the CSV, the checklist and the sample text. The page also masks anything that still looks like an identifier before it draws it.
That protects the result. It does not change the fact that the uploaded file itself holds the full numbers while it is being processed, as described next.
The Gemini note
Some pages are hard to read: a faint scan, a photographed page, a table the first pass could not make sense of. Those pages may be sent to Google's Gemini API as images for a second look. A K-1 page image includes whatever is printed on it, which can include the identification numbers. Under Google's terms, data sent to the Gemini API may be retained for up to 55 days.
If you would rather not send identification numbers anywhere, cover the SSN or TIN box and the EIN box (items A and E on a Form 1065 K-1) before you upload. The reader does not need them to read the amounts and codes. The review list then notes that those two fields could not be read, and the result leaves them empty so you can type them from the form.
No training on uploads
We do not use your uploads, or the results built from them, to train models, and we do not provide them to anyone for that purpose.
What stays in your browser
The page stores one random device identifier in your browser's local storage. It is sent with each upload so that the free allowance (1 file per day, up to 10 pages, no account) can be counted per device. Your IP address is passed to the conversion service for the same reason. The identifier carries no information about you, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.
If you save a page code, it is kept in your browser's local storage as well and is sent with each upload, so the conversion service can use the pages it covers. Clearing your browser's site data removes it, and so does the Remove link next to the code box.
K1 FastTax does not set cookies and does not run advertising or third-party tracking scripts. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when your browser requests them. If Cloudflare Web Analytics is switched on, it measures page views without cookies.
Payments
Paid plans are handled by a third-party payment provider. Card details are entered on the provider's page and are never received by K1 FastTax. Billing questions go to the address below.
Sub-processors
| Company | What it does |
|---|---|
| Modal | Compute. Runs the document conversion that turns your PDF or image into text. |
| Google (Gemini API) | Vision check. Pages the first pass cannot read with confidence may be sent here as images. |
| Cloudflare | Hosting for this website and the edge function that relays your file and builds the result. |
| Payment provider | To be named when checkout goes live. It will handle card details; K1 FastTax never sees them. |
