Schedule K-1 (Form 1065), box 14
Box 14: Self-employment earnings (loss)
The partnership's figure for what counts as self-employment earnings, reported on Schedule SE. Many limited partners see little here.
What box 14 reports
Your share of net earnings or loss from self-employment (code A), and the gross farming or fishing income (code B) and gross nonfarm income (code C) used for the optional methods on Schedule SE.
Guaranteed payments for services are generally part of code A.
Where it goes on your return
Schedule SE
The common case
Reported on Schedule SE (Form 1040). Code A is the partnership's figure for your net earnings (loss) from self-employment.
When it depends on you
Whether a limited partner's share of income counts as self-employment earnings depends on the facts, and the partnership decides what to put in code A. See the Partner's Instructions and the Instructions for Schedule SE.
Common codes in box 14
| Code | Title | Goes to |
|---|---|---|
| A | Net earnings (loss) from self-employment | Schedule SE |
| B | Gross farming or fishing income | Schedule SE (optional methods) |
| C | Gross nonfarm income | Schedule SE (optional methods) |
Code letters and titles change between tax years: new codes are added and old ones are retired. This list is the 2025 list. K1 FastTax reads and exports only the code letter and the amount, so check the letter against the instructions for the year printed on your K-1 and against the partnership's attached statement.
A real example line
Below, a line written the way the document text arrives, run through the same reader as your upload. The reader matches the box number and the IRS label, then reads the amount, so it still finds the line when the scan is noisy.

Check before you enter it
- Code A can be negative. Parentheses mean a loss.

Plain answers
Questions about box 14
What are codes A, B and C in box 14?
Code A is your net earnings (loss) from self-employment as the partnership figures it. Code B is gross farming or fishing income and code C is gross nonfarm income, which are used for the optional methods on Schedule SE.
Where does box 14 go on my return?
In the common case box 14 is reported on Schedule SE (Form 1040). Code A is the partnership's figure for your net earnings (loss) from self-employment. See the Partner's Instructions and the Instructions for Schedule SE.
Why is box 14 empty when box 1 shows income?
An empty box 14 means the partnership reported no self-employment earnings for you. Whether a limited partner's share of income counts as self-employment earnings depends on the facts, and the partnership decides what to put in code A. If you think it is wrong, ask the partnership, and see the Partner's Instructions and the Instructions for Schedule SE.
Do guaranteed payments show up in box 14?
Guaranteed payments for services are generally part of code A. The payments themselves are in box 4, and the part that counts as self-employment earnings is in box 14.
Can code A in box 14 be negative?
Yes. Parentheses mean a loss. K1 FastTax stores a loss with a leading minus, and holds an unclear sign for review instead of guessing.
Box 14 shows STMT instead of an amount. What do I enter?
STMT or an asterisk means the amount is on a statement attached to the K-1, so read the statement for it. K1 FastTax writes a code line that points to a statement as, for example, A:STMT, and adds the line to the review list, but it does not read attached statements.
How does K1 FastTax record box 14?
Each code and amount goes into the box_14_codes cell as a pair, for example A:41250, with several lines separated by semicolons. The plain box_14 column stays empty for coded boxes.
Do Form 1120-S and Form 1041 K-1s have a self-employment box?
No. Neither the Form 1120-S K-1 nor the Form 1041 K-1 has a box for self-employment earnings. It is a partnership K-1 item.
